Indoor air quality has become as important as heating and cooling to our clients, who are increasingly eager to improve the air quality in their homes or business. To this end, Clean Sweep recommends an annual mold and mildew check of your home or building along with an annual air duct cleaning.
Mold is a naturally occurring organism that helps breakdown complex life forms in our outdoor environment. Certain types of mold should not be found indoors. When these indicator molds are found, remediation may be required. Before any remediation project begins, you first must stop the water intrusion. Preventing water and excess moisture from entering your building is the single most effective way to control mold growth.
The Basic of Mold Remediation
- Find and correct the source of moisture problem
- Dry and contain the effected area to prohibit growth and prevent the mold from spreading to other areas of the building.
- Physically remove the mold by Hepa vacuuming or by removing the effected drywall, flooring etc.
- Obtain a post remediation clearance test from an industrial hygienist, prior to re-entry.
- Repair and rebuild structure

When faced with any disaster, whether smoke, fire, soot, or water damage, cleaning is required before the reconstruction project can begin. Infrared thermal imaging is a noninvasive way to effectively inspect, detect, and evaluate moisture intrusion in all types of buildings. Moisture intrusion in a building can cause havoc to the building structure and the individuals who live or work in the building. Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to see and measure thermal energy emitted from the object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible to the human eye because its wavelength is too long. The wavelength is part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. With infrared technology, everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits heat. The higher the temperature of an object, the greater the IR radiation emitted.
The use of thermal imagery during a moisture intrusion evaluation is an integral tool that can provide immediate and meaningful documentation. Infrared thermal imaging can quickly identify what building materials are impacted by the water intrusion, and visually show us how far the water migrated. By being able to visually see and locate all problem areas within the building, intelligent decisions can be made by everyone involved in the project. This typically reduces the number of days required to dry the building.
